In January 2005, following the devastating Tsunami in Southeast Asia, the members of Barenaked.Net
organized a teacup auction to raise funds for relief efforts. The auction was a great success, and not
only raised over $3100 for Unicef, but provided people with the opportunity to win amazing BNL memorabilia.
As soon as we realized the horrors of Katrina, we began to gather more goods for another auction, this
time benefiting the American Red Cross. Although we were worried that we might have handed out all of the
best memorabilia in the first auction, BNL fans came through once again with a wonderful assortment of
goods to bid on, and we raised $2850.
Recently, tragedy hit a little closer to home for BNL fans. Former BNL security guard, Joe Self, was
critically injured in an accident on February 5th. While he is recovering amazingly well considering
the extent of his injuries, the reality is that he faces a long road of recovery and medical bills.
With that in mind, the members of Barenaked.Net have once again pitched in to help out. In record time,
we’ve gathered an incredible array of BNL goodies to auction off, with all of the proceeds going to the
Joe Self Help fund, to assist Joe and his family.
If you are not familiar with a Teacup Auction, it works a little differently than a regular auction.
Instead of items going to the highest bidder, your donated money earns you 'tickets'. These tickets
can be put towards the items you are interested in. At the end of the auction, the winner of each item
will be chosen via a drawing from all of the tickets entered for that item.
For example, if Susan donates $5, she will earn one ticket, which she can place towards the item of
her choice, for example, #2. Now if she donates $20, she will earn five tickets. She could then place
3 tickets towards item #2 and 2 tickets towards item #7. Obviously, the more tickets you put towards an
item, the better chance you have of winning it, but since the drawings are random, even someone who
only puts in 1 ticket still has a chance to win!

But Not a Real Green Dress! That’s Cruel!
In the Katrina auction, Nancy (DaWezl) issued a public challenge. Get the bids over $2000, and she’d
have to dye her hair pink. Well, on Dec. 1st, she was definitely pink haired!
www.dawezl.com/auctionhair.html
Since Nancy now works in a terribly conservative corporate environment where pink hair would definitely
result in reprimands and/or lack of promotions, and because you all KNOW she’s already willing to dye
her hair pink, we’ve had to get a little more creative. So here’s the challenge. Get the bids over $5000,
and Nancy will wear the ugliest green dress that can be found to the next BNL concert she attends.
That’s right! Horrendously ugly! Wretchedly ugly! Stop in the street, and stare with slack-jaws ugly!
We all know the Pink Finks were pretty quick to force public humiliation upon Nancy, but are there
enough Meanie Greenies to make her suffer?!
BTW, to expand the scope of available ugliness Nancy has opened up the green-dress shopping to all board
members. Any green dress sized 6-8 will be considered. Take a photo of the horror, and the entire board
can decide if it’s terrible enough to force Nancy to wear. Note: No scary stains please! Nancy does
reserve the right to wear black exercise clothes underneath if the dress does not fit properly. Also,
don’t buy the dress until it’s chosen, so that we don’t end up with a surplus of ugly green dresses.
